Reflection of the Past

It's new year eve. One day to go 2008 will come to an end and it will be a whole new beginning of 2009. Wondering if I am ready for the upcoming new year. Not to say very excited about it though. It is more like I still cannot let it go.

2008 has been a wonderful year to me compared to my past years. I have gone through quite a lot in this very year. Lots of downside but not forgetting there were those happy moments too. Shall cheer those moments for the rest of my lives.

JANUARY
A Whole New Beginning
The beginning of 2008 marks the beginning of my life as a University student. Getting myself scholarship, sponsorship to be exact from PETRONAS to pursue my tertiary education in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in Tronoh, Perak. Taking Chemical Engineering. A whole new learning environment for me.

And of course, get to know some new friends.

Sarawakians in UTP

Friends from Peninsular

FEBRUARY
Chinese New Year is Here!

Since I am not going back to my hometown for the celebration, I followed one friend of mine, Chua Wee Kheng, back to his home in Puchong, Selangor. My first time to have this celebration without family by my side.

MARCH
SPM RESULT IS OUT!

It was mid semester break and I was finally home again after being away for 2 months. At the same time, it was about time to reveal the outcome of SPM. Not really satisfied with the result, but it has been a long story.

Received shocking news as well. My pet dog, "Hitam" died few days before the day I arrived. May his soul rest in peace.

Took this picture on the day I left for UTP

Can't believe this was the last time I met him.

APRIL
PENANG TRIP

Went to Penang with my friends, our very first trip. 3 days, 2 nights.

And this was the month that I have turned legally 18.

MAY
Nothing much happened around this month. This is because it was FINAL EXAM.

Oh ya! I signed up for Facebook since the end of this month.

JUNE
Smile, Blessed, Approachable Gifted was born. It used to be "Sensual" if you still remember. Yes, I only started to have this blog since June. All the posts before month of June were created purely based on my memory, of what that I could have remembered.

Semester break.
So I went back to Bintulu and have a nice holidays with my family.

Just to tell, 1 June is the Gawai Dayak Festival for Iban folks but since I have booked my flight ticket on 10 June. So, I have missed the celebration. Hope that I can catch up with it next year.

JULY
Back to UTP. A whole new semester.

AUGUST
Genting Trip, the second trip of the batch. All of us have agreed to skip lectures on Friday just for this trip. Pretty bad, aren't we? Well, it has been so much fun!

SEPTEMBER
Towards the end of the month, it was Mid Semester break. Guess what? I am going back home.

OCTOBER
Reunion with Biological Family

We went to Kuching to meet with my biological family from my mother side. They haven't met like 30 years. It was a really REUNION for everyone to gather together for the first time.

Grandparents, Uncles, Aunties, Parents

Us and Uncle

And first time to receive my
DEAN LIST AWARD

Just to say, this is also the month where lots of people in my life is having their birthdays. Plenty of dedication around this month.

NOVEMBER
It was the time for Final Exam again.

DECEMBER
End of foundation, end of semester. Back to home again.

It has been a busy month for me. Not busy in terms of work or something, it is season greeting and it still is.
Kuching Trip
Christmas Day

Sooner after this, it will be new year celebration.

*******************************

There are lots more of them actually other than listed here. Some, which I think shall remain as secrets of my own.

2008 has been a bless to me and I never regret of anything that I have done. I feel really grateful. All the events this year has been like a chain of scenario. Things could have been better if I am persistent enough to chase after my dream job but somehow, I do like the choice that I have made and never regret a bit of it. My life now is so beautiful with all the things that I get to experience, new friends that I get to meet. It has been a magical year. All these are simply irreplaceable and I won't want to trade this with anything else.

Hope the upcoming new year will be a promising one to me. With new challenges, hopes, dreams, spirit, I shall learn to conquer and to grow up.

Let us make a count down --- 2009

Laugh Out Loud

This is may be something funny to be shared with everyone here. May be it doesn't. It may make me like a fool even. Anyway, I would say I am still an amateur in this virtual world. This is pretty obvious when I am chatting with my online friends, either through MSN, Yahoo or Google Talk. This is simply because I don't get some of the short forms or notations that they used. Apparently, all my friends get what they mean, but not the dumb me. I interpret them other way round.

1. LOL - Laugh Out Loud
This is quite common for me now as I used it myself quite often, even in my blog. At first, when I was exposed to "LOL", confused, asked my mom about it. She saw it as abbreviation of "TOLOL", a Malay word which means stupid or foolish. At that time, know nothing, not that I was angry, just wondering why my friend has to call me so. Anyway, I was a real stupid though at that time.

p/s LOL can be Lots of Love, too.

2. LMAO - Laughing My Ass Off
I first come across this in CathyC's blog. The first interpretation was "Limau", which means orange or lime which is so irrelevant. Determined, I Google searched it. "Oh I see. Now I get it!". Just to say, some of them use "anus" instead of "ass".

3. ASAP - as soon as possible

Again, ASAP in Malay word means smoke. Guess I am still too Malay-minded in this thing. Also, somehow I also come across that ASAP stands for "always say a prayer". When my friends messaged me with "ASAP" at the end of it. I was like, OMG (okay, I get to know this one means), is the thing so serious that I have to pray for it? Just to say I am not religious but I do feel blessed of what I have.

4. DL - Download
I thought it was something to do with characters in a movie or drama or something. My friends use this when we were talking about 'Charms". DL, Charms, kinda related in a way, eh?

5. BRB - be right back
Burb? I even get the spelling wrong when it should be "burp'.

Guess that's all, for now. If I were to encounter more later in the near future, I am really an outdated guy then. I think that's why I don't really like chatting though, sometime just bring more confusion rather than understanding of each other. Even I chat, I will prefer use complete words rather than short forms, which of course, makes me a damn slow chatter. Prefer SMS though because IM like MSN somehow is too instant for a slow guy like me.

*****************************

Have a good laugh myself while I am posting this after being down for the last few days. I know it is season greeting which we shall celebrate with joys. Yes, I did. But when everything was over, I was just back to my down side. Couldn't sleep for the last few nights. Not really sure what caused it though. Well, it was those days. Now is TODAY.

Anyway, I have just LOLed.

Last Sunday of the Year

Tick Tock, Tick Tock,
Looking at the clock,
View outside of the block.
Looking at the sun,
Thought that I am almost done,
Just realise today is the last one.

Okay, enough with the pointless introduction. Guess everyone knows that today is the last Sunday of the year. Time really flies, I mean, really flies. Another year is passing by again, and nothing could ever stop it. Looking at your watch, looking at that ticking second hand, no matter what, it will always go clockwise and will never be otherwise. Wonder if you get to realise, that single second can only occur once. It may strike again at the same spot for the next round and so on but it will never be the same as before as minutes have just passed by. Same goes for hours, days, months, and eventually a whole new year. Confused? Never mind, it is just me being long winded. (different story if you are using digital watch but the same concept is being applied)

Just to say, sometimes people tend not to appreciate the time they have. They waste their time for worthless things. They spend their time for useless stuff. In short, they don't feel grateful of their lives because they fail to see the purpose of their lives. They fail to enjoy their lives. They fail to see that life would have been so beautiful if they could cherish it.

Enough with this whole philosophy. I start to get confused myself of what I am writing.

******************************

I woke up very late today. Really late. Once I have opened my eyes, looked at my analog watch, it was already 11.00pm. It is normal for me during holidays. But, I noticed something odd. Different time was being displayed on my handphone. 14.30!! OMG! I went to my parents' room to have a look on their watch to verify the time. Guess I was really tired. Well, I hardly can sleep though last night. Things keep on running in and out of my mind.

Anyway, after preparing myself, have some lunch. Guests were still coming so I helped my parents out. Needless to say what I have to do. Just the usual stuff. One word says it all: CLEANING.

Watching Transformer that was being broadcasted. Until today, I still don't like the movie enough. Sue me. I don't know why. I like the robotic effect though but not the movie lines. To me, it is so fake and so like a movie. I mean, the way they act is not natural enough and always make me feel they are memorizing their lines, well, they are acting anyway. Not expressive enough. And some of the conversation, irritates me in which I think is so unnecessary. As I said, I only like the special effect which is more real. My opinion only, no hard feeling to those who like the movie. It is not that I hate it.

Attending Sunday Mass around 5pm. No much people because most of the families are still away for their holidays, I think. It is Holy Family Day, if I get that right and the priest was talking about educating the children. "Melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya" is the word that he used in inculcating the discipline in young generations. And he also told that parents shall never curse their children if they are being rude or mischievous, because this will make them stay that way. Wondering why I am telling this? Well, just to share even though it is kinda common sense to everyone.

Home at 7.00pm.

Magical Friendship

".......... Thanks for being such a good friend and my wish for this year is to be able to continue this friendship that has been so magical. And thanks for supporting me in everything I do. I really to appreciate to have a friend like you. Last but not least, cheers to our beautiful friendship....."

It has been a while since our last conversation. Even though we hardly get to see and communicate in real, I truly treasure the time we get to spend virtually. It like you are always there to accompany me.

I think I have forgotten to thank for being there for me for the last semester. You shared your stories and I shared mine. Good or bad, up or down, both of us have gone through. I could not thank you enough for the care when I was going through hard times. Thanks for your words that will always lift my spirit high, so that I can stand up again.

Since the day you have started your work, you are getting busy yet never fail to stay in touch, even though how late the mail reply may be. I don't really mind about it and you shall not ever feel guilty about it. I understand. How short, how late the mail can be, I am already happy enough.

Same wish for you, I really hope our magical friendship will last forever, no matter what it takes, I won't ever let go.

Thank you. ^_^

Christmas Day

Christmas Day:
is not about Christmas Tree,
is not about Christmas Gift,
is not about Partying;
Christmas Day is about our newborn king, Jesus Christ,
who always loves us and protects us.
We shall devoted this day to Him,
expressing our love and gratitude for all the things that He has given to us.
Good or bad, up or down,
all these are the gifts and tests that God gives us
so that we can learn to be stronger and better,
day by day.
It is true that devil temptation is irresistible sometimes,
but all we can do is to try our very best to behave ourselves
and leave the rest to Him.
Everyone is a sinner, so am I.
Nevertheless, that is not an excuse for us to make God angry
for the bad things we have done,
either intentionally or otherwise,
in spite of His mercifulness towards us.
Must learn to be strong-willed in whatever we do.
Just my two cents.

Last but not least,
LOVE OUR GOD!

******************************************

25 December has finally come to an end. Even so, the Christmas mood is still in the air. It has been quite a tiring day yesterday; cleaning the dishes, serving the guests, clearing up the stuff after the guest left... typical Christmas routine for me. Just to say, this was my third Christmas celebration since I was only baptized when I was 16. Still like a kid, pretty excited about it.

My handphone inbox was spammed with Christmas wishes from relatives, friends, and even stranger that I didn't know them. Anyway, thanks for all the wishes and Merry Christmas to you and your family too, wherever you are, and God bless you. For those who send me the Christmas card, my greatest thanks reach to you too. Really appreciate it.

What can I say about my celebration this year? Nothing much about it really though. Family and friends come and go, did some gathering, chit-chatting, catching up with one another since it was holidays season, a perfect time to fosfer our relationship. As for me, I get to meet with my high school friends in which I haven't met quite sometimes. Really miss them though. Well, someone seems to be never changed since the last time I met her. Good thing though. =)

After coming home for about 4 weeks now, I hardly can make sometime to watch TV, you know. So, yesterday, after doing all the stuff, finally can relax myself to watch some movies. It was Christmas day, so lots of Christmas movies were being broadcasted. There was one movie that really touched me, "Single Santa Seeks Mrs Claus". It is kinda fiction yet reality kind of movie.

Well, basically, the movie is about Santa Claus is going to retired soon and his son, Nicholas is going to take over his post. But, there is a condition. He must get himself a Mrs. Claus to run the family business. So, all the way from North Pole, he goes to United States to find his wife-to-be and encounters a single working mom, Beth with a 7-year-old child, Jake. From there, their romance blossoms. There is one problem though; Beth doesn't believe in Santa Claus. How can Nicholas persuade Beth to be half of his heart? Enough description, watch it yourself if you have the chance. Pretty heart-warming, I must say. You may think it is a bit childish with all these Santa thing. It is just a movie, and it is not really about Santa. There are more things to be learnt from the movie.

Get this quote from the movie, somehow sounds like this:
IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE, YOU WON'T GET ANYTHING;
IF YOU CHOOSE TO BELIEVE, YOU WON'T LOSE ANYTHING.

Well, I guess that is about all my celebration for this year. Just to say, while I am posting this, more friends are coming. Posting this upstairs, loud music can be heard from downstairs. Guess everyone still enjoy the celebration.

I know it is kinda late, well,
WISH EVERYONE
MERRY CHRISTMAS

p/s I cannot upload pictures that I wish to share with everyone here. I am not sure what's the problem is. Hope that this won't be permanent. Guess something is wrong with internet connection. Hope everything will get better soon.

Kuching Trip

It has been a tiring day after helping my mom to do last minute preparation for the upcoming Christmas celebration: sweeping the floor, cleaning the dishes,... guess that was about all, for today. There will be more tomorrow. Great!

Has been away from home to Kuching for one week to have our annual family vacation and of course, some shopping. Just reached home yesterday, around 9pm. It has been a long ride. Imagine Kuching city is 600 km away from Bintulu town. What a journey!

16 December
Have to wake up at 4.30am as we planned to depart at 5am. Malaysian culture, only started our journey at 6.00am. Managed to reach our grandparents' house at 3.00pm which is in Serian.

17 December
Went to Kota Samarahan to meet with our biological grandparents. If you have been reading my old posts, I have two grandparents from my mother side as she was adopted since she was an infant. Manage to find her real parents back in October, so my parents decided to bring my foster grandparents to meet them. This is their first time they meet each other once again after so many years has passed.

Biological & foster grandparents

18 December

Went to Lundu to attend our relatives' wedding there. The groom is an Iban and the bride is a Chinese. The function was held as if it was a Chinese wedding. Weird thing is, there was no cake cutting. This is my first time to attend such wedding, I mean, with no cake. Lots of singing though. And the crowd get high when Iban song was being sung. Well, this is simply because people started to dance with the rythm. This is typically seen in Iban folks' wedding dinner. Not break dance kind of stuff, mind you. Just some soft moves with simple movement. The famous one will be poco-poco, a popular dance from Indonesia.

Just an embedded video if you never heard of this dance before - Poco-poco

We stayed at Gunung Gading National Park's chalet there. It kind chills over there with all the mother nature around us. A good place to relax and sleep. Thought of taking more pictures outdoor but darn, it has been raining everyday since the day we started our trip. Raining, makes traveling so hard, especially outdoors.

View outside of our chalet

19 December
Back to Serian.

20 December
Went to Kuching and this is for real. I mean, having vacation in KUCHING, the cat city. We checked in Somerset Villa, apartmental-style hotel, I think for one night. The room is really luxurious enough for everyone to stay. Air-conditioned living room and bed room, fancy washroom with washing machine and dryer, plug in for shaver machine and heater, anything that you can imagine. RM330 per night, it has to be that luxurious. Another, it has free public WiFi there. I did bring my celcom broadband thingy along there though but I hardly can online for the last few days because my grandparents' area, Serian and Lundu are kinda out of coverage.

Thought of snapping some of the cat statues around the city but, IT WAS RAINING....
Guess this is good enough. ehi...

Resting ourselves for few hours, we went to tHe Spring to do some shopping, window shopping to be exact because the stuff there is quite expensive. Too branded to be afforded by us (excluding our accomodation).

Saw this BIG christmas tree

tHe Spring

We bought a new camera though. SONY Cyber-shot DSC-S730. I persuaded my mom to buy it in the first place because the old digital camera is a bit outdated. Still, my mom insisted me to bring the old camera back to Uni later. =.="

Just to say, the gadget sold here is quite cheap, in my opinion. Lots of computer stuff. If you are finding any add-on for your PC or laptop, guess you can come to this shop.

newly-bought camera

Went to Padini. Browsing through the clothes but I didn't buy anything. So, camwhore. XD
Quite nice, isn't it? =p

After buying Big Apple Donut and Starbucks, we left.

21 December
Woke up early in the morning. Guess what? To get myself a facial treatment. My first time to have such treatment with all those mask and stuff around my face. Feel like being pampered. Just lying there and people serve you. LOL. Actually, it is my cousin's workplace and she was the one doing the treatment for me. I was told that I have to have to facial treatment again as there were too much of blackheads and whiteheads. Really hate this thing! PIMPLES, GO AWAY!!!

Went to Sarawak Museum to look around.
The leftover building after the British colonization, and is reserved as museum. Nostalgic in a way, I must say. Reflection of the past.

Guess you all know we are not allowed to take photos in the museum. So, we only took photos outdoor. *no photos*

There is an Art Gallery nearby.
We snapped some photos there though. Lots of them and here are few of them.

Hope no one come and hunt me down after this... *spooky*

In the evening, we went to Boulevard. Finally, we were at the right place. The place we could spend our "green". Even so, I bought 2 shirts and 1 short which cost me RM123.45. Pretty accurate with the total. A sign of good shopper. haha... This time, I did the pay thingy, for myself only.

Back to Serian again.

22 December
This was the day we went home. Long journey again. Safely reached home around 9.00pm. One week has gone again.

You Gotta Be

When life makes you down, don't let me down. Just be happy, always. Be strong, stay strong. =)

Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds
Try and keep your head up to the sky
Lovers, they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears
Stand up and be counted
Don't be ashamed to cry

You gotta be
You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Herald what your mother said
Readin' the books your father read
Try to solve the puzzles in your own sweet time
Some may have more cash than you
Others take a different view
My oh my heh, hey

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Don't ask no questions, it goes on without you
Leaving you behind if you can't stand the pace
The world keeps on spinning
You can't stop it, if you try to
This time it's danger staring you in the face

Oh oh oh Remember
Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds
Try and keep your head up to the sky
Lovers, they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears
My oh my heh, hey, hey

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

男朋友:他會幫你辨別是非,但你會覺得他管太多。
Typical friends: He will conform whatever you do, as long as you are happy.
Boy friend: He will judge you of what of you are doing, but you will think that he control you way too much.

普通朋友:他會說他要給你最大的幸福。
男朋友:他只能給你保證,妳跟他在一起,他是最快樂的。
Typical friends: He said that he will give you the greatest happiness that you ever had.
Boy friend: He can only guarantee that when both of you are together, that will be his happiest moment.

First and foremost, I hope that my translation is accurate as possible. It is harder than I thought eventhough I am used to learn Chinese back in primary school. Guess there is a difference between CHINESE and TRANSLATING. =.="

Second, I think this is also true for those being close friends of another. I mean, everyone can has lots of friends but only few of them can be your buddies, a guy who you can fully trust and close to. You won't expect him or her to let you down as both of you have faith on each other.

This is just my opinion. Guess life is too complicated to be defined absolutely as everyone has their own view of life. Not every concept works for everyone.

My piece of thought:
The best thing that you can do is to cherish everyone around you.
Don't let them down.
Before that, don't let you yourself down when life makes you down.
It does not worth a thing to be sad.
Cherish every moment.
You won't want to waste it for nothing.
So, just cheer up, ALWAYS!

Bintulu Town

Found this video on YouTube. For those who miss or never come to Bintulu, guess you have to watch this video.

Bintulu is just a humble town that is still growing. MLNG, which operates the three plants in the PETRONAS complex, is the world's largest producer of LNG at a single location in Bintulu. Guess that is the proudest thing that I can talk about my little homwtown.

Lifestyle here is not as fancy and stylish as that in KL or any main cities around Malaysia. Neverthless, I like it here. =)
